چکیده
We present evidence for a new morphologically defined form of small-scale substructure in the Coma Cluster, which we call galaxy aggregates. These aggregates are dominated by a central galaxy, which is on average three magnitudes brighter than the smaller aggregate members, nearly all of which lie to one side of the central galaxy. We have found three such galaxy aggregates dominated by the S0 galaxies RB 55, RB 60, and the star-bursting SBb, NGC 4858. RB 55 and RB 60 are both equi-distant between the two dominate D galaxies NGC 4874 and NGC 4889, while NGC 4858 is located next to the larger E0 galaxy NGC 4860. All three central galaxies have redshifts consistent with Coma Cluster membership. We describe the spatial structures of these unique objects and suggest several possible mechanisms to explain their origin. These include: chance superpositions from background galaxies, interactions between other galaxies and with the cluster gravitational potential, and ram pressure. We conclude that the most probable scenario of creation is an interaction with the cluster through its potential.

The high spatial resolution of the MECS experiment on board Beppo-SAX has encouraged a few scientists, including the author, to perform observations of galaxy clusters. Results from the analysis of the first few observed objects are encouraging. After having reviewed the Beppo-SAX observing program for galaxy clusters and referenced contributions to these proceedings by other authors on the sam...

A recalibration of the luminosity–linewidth technique is discussed which introduces (i) new cluster calibration data, (ii) new corrections for reddening as a function of inclination, and (iii) a new zero-point calibration using 13 galaxies with distances determined via the cepheid period– luminosity method. It is found that H 0 = 82 ± 16 km s −1 Mpc −1 (95% confidence).

We present the results of a galaxy redshift survey in the central region of the Shapley Concentration. Our total sample contains ∼ 2000 radial velocities of galaxies both in the clusters and in the inter-cluster field. We reconstruct the density profile of this supercluster, calculate its overdensity and total mass. Moreover we detect a massive structure behind the Shapley Concentration, at ∼ 3...

Gravitational lensing can be used to analyze the redshift distribution of faint galaxies. In particular the magnification bias modifies locally the galaxy number density of lensed sources observed in lensing clusters. This depletion area probes the redshift distribution of galaxies beyond B = 25. In this proceedings I present this new tool to infer the redhsift distribution of faint galaxies.
